I hit it off with Destiny and Bill the minute I walked into their gorgeous, coastal vacation rental in Castine this Labor Day weekend. Destiny and I shared a similar past line of work, and Bill is a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, where I was employed a few years ago. And they got married in the town that I called home for a number of years, and where I got married myself. So going back and photographing someone else’s wedding in the same place that you tied the knot is quite a sentimental experience and one that is very interesting to see from the other side.
This was a very small, family-centered occasion with only immediate relatives in attendance. And it wasn’t Destiny’s father that walked her to Bill, but rather her young, and may I say handsome, son that lead his momma to her groom. It was the sweetest “giving away” I have witnessed. And what was even sweeter, was that Bill not only read his vows to Destiny, but also had a very special portion dedicated especially for his new son. It brought everyone to tears and is a testament to how loving and close this family is.
What started out as a rainy day, unsure of whether we’d even be able to go outside, soon turned into a glorious afternoon on the coast, filled with sunshine. It was a perfect day in Maine to be on the water and an even more perfect day for a wedding. After the ceremony on the deck, I took them into the town where we were chauffeured around in a 1977 Ford pick-up. We made stops at Fort Madison, the MMA campus, and down to “The State of Maine”, MMA’s training cruise ship…another sentimental spot for Bill.
Congrats Destiny & Bill. It was an honor to be present to witness this day and capture it all for you. I wish you all the love in the world and many, many more days of glorious sunshine in your life.
