Anna and I officially got to meet last December on a cold evening in Portland for a beer and some great conversation about her wedding. However, she and Kit had already seen me almost five months prior photographing the wedding of their dear friends Leah & Ryan. And thanks to a recommendation from Leah and her maid of honor, who was also a bridesmaid in Anna’s wedding, I was lucky enough to document this beautiful gathering of friends and family. The two were married on a spacious, rolling hillside just up the road from where Anna grew up in the woods of western Massachusetts on her parents maple syrup farm.
Every ounce of this wedding was a reflection of the delicately curated style that Anna & Kit have. They treated their guests to pourover coffee before the ceremony, served up by the groom himself. An oyster bar and signature cocktails welcomed guests to cocktail hour, where they were then seated in the most beautifully decorated barn with family style seating and flower arrangements of locally sourced blooms and veggies. Guests filled their bellies with some of the couple’s favorite bistro style foods, including Anna’s favorite sandwich a spicy, vegetarian Banh mi on crusty bread. I can attest to the amazingness that was that sandwich. But the most wonderful detail of all at this wedding was the close knit bond of friendship that surrounded these two people. The same group of friends that attended Leah & Ryan’s wedding were also in attendance for Anna & Kit and I quickly learned that this group has some amazing history together. They all met and worked at the same restaurant in Boston years ago. Many met their spouses while working at that restaurant, and those years spent together working hard in kitchens and other areas of the business have led them to careers in the hospitality field. Some of them moved to Maine and others are still in the Boston area, even working at that same restaurant. But they all get together every year for holidays and when one, or a pair, from the group gets married they are all there together celebrating in the joyous occasion. It is a rare thing to have friends like this and I know that Anna & Kit know how lucky they are to have been able to share their wedding day with these wonderful people.
I consider myself lucky have met some of these people and it was honor to document this wedding for Anna & Kit. Congratulations you two! I hope you’re enjoying the start of your marriage during this most wonderful time of the year.
