Laura and Chris met me for coffee two days before Christmas last year at a coffee shop in Camden. It was one of the first blizzards of the season, but warm inside the shop we enjoyed our cappuccinos and poured over sample albums. Laura grew up in Camden and after much wonderful conversation we learned that she and I were in high school at the same time and actually played soccer against each other. We both remembered one very specific, rather rough, game where our high schools duked it out on the field in a very important league championship game. There may have been a little bloodshed back in the 90’s, but it certainly didn’t stop us from having a good laugh and realizing that we were all a great fit for each other for this wedding.
Laura and Chris are not only one of the most stylish couples I have had the privilege of working with, as evidenced by the black tie event they threw at the Yacht Club, but they are some of the kindest and and hardest working people I know. Personally tragedy struck both their families within the last few years with the deaths of their fathers, so it was very important to them to honor their memories in this wedding. Laura had her father photographed in a pendant pinned to her bouquet, which she held proudly as she walked herself down the isle towards Chris. Even her father’s old office was directly across the harbor overlooking the club, giving Laura the feeling that dad was there watching over her. Chris’s mother gracefully walked her son down the isle and even though many of his family over the Atlantic in the Netherlands couldn’t be there, they all got together on the day of the wedding to make a short video for Chris wishing him congratulations. With that one, little gesture, it made it feel like dad was that much closer to the celebration in spirit. The day was the perfect mix of casual and classy, proving that a laid back, black tie wedding can be thrown on the coast of Maine. It was a joy to spend the day with these two and their lovely families. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect fall day. Congratulations again you two. I hope life in Boston, your new jobs and newlywed hood is treating you well. Enjoy my favorites from that wonderful day!
