I left my home in Katy, Texas on a Friday afternoon and headed north on an adventure to visit a new wedding venue way on the outskirts of city or suburban life. Drive up 99 and then northwest on highway 290, and before you can blink and eye you have officially left suburban sprawl and have entered the quiet countryside of east Texas. With nothing but flat cattle farms and winding roads for miles, Venue 311 immediately has you wondering, “Am I in the right place?” And that’s kind of the point.
The venue sits at the end of a country road, surrounded by farm land and other peoples’ homes. If you’re not paying attention you may just miss the dark, iron sign hanging at the entrance to their driveway. But turn into the drive and there you are, a large gate welcoming you a beautiful, white barn tucked back on the property, out of sight from the road.
When I arrived the place was practically empty, the sun was almost setting, the only sounds around me were the animals in the neighboring fields and the chainsaw from the neighbor next door, probably doing projects around the house. I quickly scan the property, take a few shots before the sun went down, and then I went inside to meet Emily, the daughter of the owners and the manager of the site.
She was setting up the place for a rehearsal dinner that night. I got a lovely tour around the modern venue, snapping shots along the way. Venue 311 is a delightful location for people who want to get out of the city, enjoy the quiet of the country, but without sacrificing style. The modern look of this custom designed barn is not only sleek and put together, but it’s also cozy and let’s you know that you can relax in the quiet splendor of the country.
