Hop in your car and head west out of Houston and once you’re out of the city, and past suburbia, you’ll make your way into the quiet country towns that make Texas what it is. The farms and ranches are spread across these areas by the dozens. And if you’re lucky enough to have one these ranches in your family, like many people do, then you have a peaceful, wide open space to escape the rush of the city. It also makes the perfect location for party. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned since moving here years ago, it’s that Texans know how to throw a good party!
It was at this family ranch in Cat Spring that the Courtney family threw the most beautiful engagement party for their son and soon-to-be daughter in law this February. Family from all over the country came to dawn their best boots and hats to celebrate Elly and Trevor who were getting married in June in Houston. At the time of this party, no one could have predicted where we’d be now with a pandemic forcing so many weddings and events to be postponed this summer. Sadly, Elly and Trevor’s was one of those weddings. So I’m excited to share these photos here in the hope that it gives the family a great deal of joy to relive this day and see so many of their loved ones gathered around in celebration.
Everything about this party was absolutely lovely and quintessentially Texas. From the rustic floral decor to the the pig roasting on a spit next to the tent, to the local country band, a s’more dessert buffet around the fire, to a night capped off with their own, private, fireworks show, it was everything a ranch party should be. A fabulous team of people put this event together and you can see them all at the end of the photos.
When I moved from Maine to Houston, Texas six years ago it was the rural, country life, the slowness and peaceful wide open spaces that I missed the most. Being out here on this family ranch, doing the job I love so much, made it feel a little like home for the night. Thank you to the Courtney family for welcoming me in for this event. It was an absolute pleasure. Many blessings to all of you!
